Ina-Inakay took root on January 6, 2005 when a teacher was invited to speak at a student-led worship service at the Correctional Institution for Women. Inquiring of the pastor as to how the women and their children were supported after the completion of their prison terms, it was quickly realized there was a substantial need that was otherwise not being fulfilled.
With faithful partners, Ina-Inakay Center Inc. was officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on May 11, 2006. The operation started in Metro Manila with the Correctional Institution for Women as the starting point.
Inakay started with seven children in the first quarter of 2006 to 2007. By the second quarter, that number had expanded to 33 children. A livelihood program began the following year to assist guardians in providing basic needs for the children in their care.
In 2018, land was purchased in Mambog Sula, San Jose, Tarlac, named Levi PCLL. On February 2, 2019, the Board approved expansion to include male inmates and their children.
When my mother was in prison, I thought no one would ever care what happened to us. Ina-Inakay gave me a place to study, food on hard days, and people who believed I could finish school. Today I am the first in my family to reach college. They did not just help me survive, they helped me hope again.
